Being Who You Are

In Whittier a lot teens like me try to fit in. Over the three going on four years that I have lived in Whittier I have tried to fit in. I mostly try to fit in during the summer because there are a lot of kids who only come to Whittier in the summer which I call "Summer Kids" for short and well you have to be a "cool kid" to hang out with them and for the longest time I actually tried to be one of the "cool kids", but I soon realized that it wasn't worth my time. A lot of them are over 14 years old and I personally feel like they should know that fitting in is not okay because you are being who someone else would like you to be and you're not being yourself which is the best you. I always ask them why they try to fit in, but they tell me that their not and trust me they are because I sit in my apartment most of the summer and I see them and they do try to fit in. I was really surprised to learn that my own sister tries to fit in and again trust me i...

History Of Whittier

One of the questions most people ask me is , "How was Whittier discovered?". In this post I will be telling you about the history if Whittier.      Whittier was discovered by the U.S Military during World War 2.  The Military thought it was the perfect place to have a base because when enemy planes were flying overhead they would not be able to see down below because of the cloud coverage Whittier gets. Soon after Whittier was established they decided that they needed a non water way passage to get supplies back and forth between places, so they got two teams together and sent one team to the other side of one of the mountains and they started mining until both teams met up in the middle of the mountain. When they met up they were only 2 inches off in height.  The tunnel was 2 1/2 miles long. The Captains and well anyone who could afford it lived in the Buckner Building which had a bowling alley, movie theater, store, bakery, and a post office.  It w...

A Brief Intro

Hi my name is Alyssa and I live in Whittier, Alaska. I have another blog, but I barely use it anymore so I decided to make another one for school. The reason I decided to make another one is because I always get asked questions about why I like it in Whittier, what the life is like in Whittier, and just other questions about the town, so I decided instead of commenting on a questions on Facebook I would write a blog and answer all the questions people have about teens living in Whittier. This blog is to show and tell people about what life is like in Whittier through a teens eyes. I hope you enjoy!
